000-IX Masterlist entry
Marine Biome Wanderer
Character
optimistic, lackadaisical, friendly, fun-loving

Makoa is beloved by all sea creatures. He is playful, carefree, lovable, and always the life of the party. Makoa is instant-friends with everyone he meets and his "no worries" attitude is very infectious. He can be a bit goofy and doesn't take anything seriously — for him the most important thing is to just be happy and have fun with your friends. All marine animals adore Makoa and enjoy his visits as he travels the biome. He spends most of his time out on the open ocean and only visits the beach for brief intervals and spends a limited amount of time on land. Outside of the water he can only waddle around awkwardly, but you will sometimes see him basking on the sand or rocks. Still, out in the water is where he is most at ease and the wild ocean brings him great joy. In the open sea he is always surrounded by animals, they are his closest friends and the ones most likely to be aided or transformed by him.

He has been mistaken for a sea monster many times throughout history and with such enormous size he can appear to be frightening when really he would never harm anyone. He enjoys interacting with humans by influencing the ocean currents without revealing himself to them, but when it comes to transformations he tends not to intervene. He is very casual about performing transformations for others. He never goes out of his way to look for opportunities to help people, animals, or esk within his biome. He primarily does transformations only if he stumbles upon the crisis or if it is one of his friends that is in need. Overall he does not act as a protector in the biome; it is his belief that the ocean is so vast, ancient, and powerful that it can simply take care of itself. Most esk have great affection for Makoa's friendly spirit but there are many marine esk that feel frustrated that he is not more available or willing to act as a leader or guardian of the biome instead of playing around all the time. When confronted by a displeased esk he usually laughs it off as no big deal, changes the subject, or tells them to lighten up. If esk are seeking him out for transformations or elemental power they will not be able to find him out on the open ocean without help. Some esk will ask a seabird to fly out, locate him, and lead them to his location. Sending out a message to him for help directly will not work; he travels as he pleases and cannot be summoned.

Makoa's childishness can be frustrating, but after spending time with him it's hard not to be charmed by his cheerful and relaxed energy. It is very easy to forget one's troubles while out romping in the water with him and his animal friends. Despite seeming a bit immature, Makoa has a very deep heart. His love for his friends is incredibly strong and for many of them he is like a big teddy bear that helps soothe their pain and worries. Once you meet Makoa you are his friend for life; he never forgets a name or a face and you will always be welcomed into his circle. His veneration for the ocean is also very profound and he speaks of it as if the sea was his dearest friend or family member.

Appearance
Makoa is enormous — as big as a whale. He looks a bit like a porpoise or penguin with his bold coloration and sleek body. He is very soft and squishy with very thick front legs and stubby toes. His back legs are slight and webbed. He can dive to great depths using the ocean current to propel him or he can float atop the surface like a seabird. The light areas of his body have a gentle pearlescent quality. He is an ocean morph esk with sleek fur and a wedge-shaped tail that has a dark tip. His eyes are quite small for an esk; they are deep black and have a gentle expression. His nature features are beach agates that are always a bit wet and shimmering. They are smooth as if worn down by crashing waves and the stone on his forehead has a soft point. Makoa moves awkwardly on land with a waddling gait.

Elemental Power
Makoa's elemental power gives him control over ocean waves, currents, and whirlpools. He mostly uses this power for fun and surfing. He happily passes this element on to his friends, but sometimes if he's feeling a bit lazy he will procrastinate, repeatedly citing that "the Ocean says it is not time."
He does not manifest a large display of this element, it simply coats his nature features with glistening sea water.

Using Makoa in your character stories

Makoa can be freely integrated into your narratives and backstories.
Makoa will welcome your esk's friendship if they can manage to find him out on the open ocean or on one of his brief visits to the shore. Your esk is welcome to join his friendly crew of animals and travel the seas.

You may use Makoa in your Origin Prompts as long as your Esk belongs to the Marine Biome. If your Esk becomes a Water Elemental (salt water only) you can use Makoa in your character's story as the source of this power (Biome Wanderers can pass their elemental powers on to other Esk).

You can draw and write about Makoa without having to ask permission, please honor the concepts provided here by maintaining the character's integrity, appearance, and lore in your works.
