Arid Biome Wanderer
Character
introspective, nomadic, attuned, sibylline

Majanthi is a being of many names. Majanthi, Dunemother, Nhm of the Deserts and the Droughtlands, Maj of the Great Dry Sea, Great Billowing One, Flower of the Desert, Breaker of Curses, Beh-ti of the Dunes, Haweeyo of the Sprawling Sands, Cloud-Speaker, Spirit-Sleeper, Queen of Mesa and Sand--these and many more have been known to identify the enigmatic arid wanderer. She roams ceaselessly throughout her biome, stopping only at sites of fallen esk or areas of great spiritual resonance. Majanthi collects titles during her travels like grains of sand on her flowing mane, cloaking herself in them like layers and layers of woven carpet.
She is a healer, sensing imbalances in the earth as minuscule as grains of sand shifting on dunes. Majanthi knows the sites of every fallen esk in her biome, and frequently honors their places of rest with words of healing or hand-made offerings. She enjoys crafting small trinkets, especially for the purpose of leaving them as gifts to guard the remnants of fallen esk. Seemingly drawn to areas of disturbance, Majanthi travels as a mystic, focusing on calming areas of spiritual aching—sacred sites, burial grounds, or haunted locations. As more and more esk begin to populate the scorching Arid Biome, her once private rituals have steadily gained a larger audience. Though vastly more comfortable alone, Majanthi devotes her attention to the most moving of ceremonies or the most difficult of exorcisms with a patient grace and devotion even with a sizable crowd.

She believes that esk are responsible for staying connected to the spiritual world and need to nurture their relationships with not only the physical environments of their biomes, but also the spirits and energies within it. Majanthi believes her primary duty is to the earth--communing with her adopted mother, understanding its vibrating song, and working tirelessly to heal it. Because of her all-encompassing duty, Majanthi does not prioritize relationships with esk, often spending months in ardent isolation. She abhors those that disrespect their boundaries and biomes, and attempts to heal their restless nature with her practice.

She willingly performs transformations on lost spiritual seekers, those in the healing arts, or those deeply afflicted with spiritual pain. Majanthi has a soft spot for animals, as she believes they are a more pure manifestation of the biome’s spirit. Many animals can be seen following alongside Majanthi for spells of her journey, and she often transforms her closest companions at the end of their life to become helpers in her healing work. Majanthi is also rumored to transform objects with deep spiritual unrest as a last attempt at purification.

Esk that seek her transformations or abnormal power be warned, though, as Majanthi requires spirits to follow her as pupils before granting their requests. She deeply believes that esk who are becoming abnormals must first  learn how to heal their own boundaries before they bring their powers to faraway lands. Esk who have undergone her tutelage report performing strange tasks or upholding strenuous monastic habits, such as meditating while buried deep in the sand, following fauna for days on end, or tracing elaborate symbols into the hard clay of the desert soil.  However, if proven to be a dedicated and worthy keeper of the earth’s health, Majanthi is rumored to bless esk with good fortune and clarity of thought.

Majanthi is quiet, intellectual, and has a creative nature. She is very knowledgeable about the histories of her biome, speaking about each canyon layer as if it was her own brushstroke. But for all her dedication to healing the Arid Biome, Majanthi is unwilling to look within to her own wounds. Majanthi is known by many, many names, but she feels as though she has no sense of self outside of her healing. At her lowest points, Majanthi believes she is only a vessel for channeling and purifying the earth’s vibratory resonances. Some esk have reported seeing Majanthi creating intricate sand mosaics, entranced in her work. Perhaps she feels a sense of relief and renewal watching the whipping winds scatter her meditation in streaks across the earth. As impermanent as shifting dunes, Majanthi is quick to move on, often at the expense and frustration of others.

Appearance
Majanthi’s stature, build, and movement is similar to a camel—and in the radiating heat of the Arid Biome, one might mistake her for a fairly large one if not for her long, flowing tail, the mid-back pointed crown of palo santo, or her fur’s iridescent sheen. Her characteristic dappled piebald coat can be spotted slowly ambling across the crests of plateaus and dunes. Her hoof-like feet enable Majanthi to tread at a steady pace throughout the Arid Biome. Majanthi’s tail begins in a fluffy tuft at the base, flowing into a thick waterfall that drags across the sand and silt. She has an equally shaggy mane that drapes low and over her face, partially obscuring a pair of bright, clear, stark-white eyes. Some have reported to see them glow during the cool desert nights or during particularly difficult rituals. Majanthi lovingly collects transformation crystals and other special gifts from the earth in her mane, as she believes they are not only sacred, but help to channel her connection to the earth. She manifests a varying amount of transformation rewards, from anywhere to a handful to a shimmering blanket of pure crystals and gifts. Majanthi is also known to curate her mane's glittering artifacts depending on the occasion: either to help channel her energy for a difficult ritual, or to guide her footsteps in safe passage on her journeys. Atop her back is a high, arched hump which carries her nature feature, palo santo, forever wafting out trails of her elemental smoke.

Elemental Power

Majanthi’s incense elemental drifts from her palo santo—its sweet scent can be sensed from miles away. It is said to have cleansing and restorative properties. She may choose to manipulate the smoke into a thin pool beneath her feet, into small images, or pulsing, swirling patterns. Majanthi only passes on her elemental power to esk who have followed her in the teaching and performing of healing arts.

Using Majanthi in your character stories

Majanthi can be freely integrated into your narratives and backstories.
Majanthi roams the Arid Biome, visiting sites of fallen esk or attempting to quell sites with lingering restless spirits. Due to her nomadic nature, Majanthi is unlikely to make casual friends with esk; her only true commitment is to her healing art. However, she will offer tutelage to esk interested in learning her practice. Her tasks are often strange, and seemingly pointless, but many esk report of her omniscient instincts and deep impact of her rituals. Majanthi thoroughly enjoys the presence of animals and also enjoys speaking with esk who were transformed from animals. In rare circumstances, Majanthi may transform cursed or haunted artifacts as a final effort at purifying the land and granting them new life. Your esk may find Majanthi fascinating or frustrating, or coin yet another title for the enigmatic wanderer.

You may use Majanthi in your Origin Prompts as long as your Esk belongs to the Arid Biome. If your Esk becomes an Insence Elemental you can use Majanthi in your character's story as the source of this power (Biome Wanderers can pass their elemental powers on to other Esk).

You can draw and write about Majanthi without having to ask permission, please honor the concepts provided here by maintaining the character's integrity, appearance, and lore in your works.
