Fresh Waters Biome Wanderer
Character
opaque, asocial, eerie, unemotional

Seventh is an unusual Wanderer. It has a haunting but impersonal presence that is very disturbing to humans, animals, and other esk in its vicinity. There is little to say about Seventh's character; it speaks to no one and is avoidant of direct contact. Very few have ever gotten near it, somehow as you try to approach it it always seems out of reach, or it simply vanishes before you can reach it.

Seventh travels very slowly and somewhat robotically, across bodies of freshwater. It always walks atop the surface never touching the land. It can be seen following rivers but most of the time it simply moves in a straight line through the waters, appearing at one end and vanishing at the other. No one really knows where it is going or why, some believe it isn't truly conscious and is like a sort of malfunctioning specter. This esk is entirely asocial; it makes no effort to communicate and reveals no personality, warmth, or connection with others. It never uses verbal telepathy, it only emits random, distorted noise directly into others' heads. The sound can be a droning or ringing like tinnitis or it can be a horrible howling or banshee-like shrieking. The experience can cause immense distress.

Occasionally Seventh pauses its movement and simply stands motionless in the middle of a pond or lake, completely motionless for days or weeks at a time. This visitation is feared by some, but most Fresh Waters esk believe it serves some purpose. Many esk of this biome have some reverence for this Wanderer, knowing that it has walked through their lands since an ancient time.

When Seventh spots someone they may feel a chill or become completely paralyzed. It will turn its Frightful Mind enchantment on them, which fills the victim's mind with dreadful thoughts, fears, or memories. Receiving a transformation from this Wanderer is an ordeal. Seventh mostly gives transformations to beings who are drowning or suffering from hypothermia. It provides no communication or interaction as it happens, those who are being transformed feel as if they are being frozen and then shattered into pieces. This esk always does transformations from a distance, sometimes the missing do not even realize they have encountered the esk and their transformation is exceptionally bewildering and terrifying. Seventh lacks all compassion and often lets people or animals perish in its biome without intervening, no one really understands how it selects its transformation recipients.

Since it has never spoken to anyone, no one knows its true name. 000 refers to it as The Seventh, so this name has been picked up by other esk. Most drop "the" from the name, simply calling it Seventh.

Appearance
Seventh is very tall and has a bird-like appearance. The legs are extremely long with thin toes at the ends. The neck is somewhat like a heron's, it can extend out and be quite long and narrow or it can pull back toward the body as if it has no neck at all. Its false ears are long strands of fur that wave in the breeze. It has a long tail that drags behind it with frozen reeds that become more dense toward the tip of the tail. The coloring on the tail is streaky and appears a little like waves on water, and the stripes on its back are concentric ovals with soft edges. It has unusual shaggy fur along the sides of its body and draping over the tail which gives it an odd silhouette. The eye marking on the face is not a true eye. It glows blue in the dark or fog, but is not always illuminated. This esk does have eyes, they are small and narrow along the edges of the eye-shaped marking.

Elemental Power
Seventh is an ice elemental with the ability to summon sleet storms and freeze water. Its nature features are always frozen and it freezes the water around it as it walks. Even in warm water it will leave circles of ice under its feet.

Esk that seek this Wanderer's elemental power (or abnormal transformations) do so with great trepidation, they know not to approach too closely or else it will vanish and they will miss their chance. These seekers have to wait patiently in its presence before receiving its blessing, sometimes for an absurdly long time in complete stillness. Most esk are not able to endure Seventh's telepathic noise or painful enchantment and give up. Even esk that manage to endure the wait may not receive anything, there is no guarantee and seems to be no basis for how this Wanderer chooses those in its favor.

It should be noted that for some esk the experience of the Frightful Mind enchantment is actually a revelatory experience. If one can successfully navigate the psychic anguish they may emerge from the experience with heightened powers or renewed purpose in their soul when they emerge.

Using Seventh in your character stories

Seventh can be freely integrated into your narratives and backstories.
It can appear on any body of freshwater and travels extensively through the biome, including areas that would not normally have ice or cold weather. It will not befriend or socialize with your characters, but your character may be interested in its elemental power or may wish to test their inner strength against its enchantment. For the most part meeting this Wanderer is a chance encounter.

You may use Seventh in your Origin Prompts as long as your esk belongs to the Fresh Waters Biome. If your esk becomes a Ice Elemental or you can use Seventh in your character's story as the source of this power (Biome Wanderers can pass their elemental powers on to other Esk).

You can draw and write about Seventh without having to ask permission, please honor the concepts provided here by maintaining the character's integrity, appearance, and lore in your works.
