Abnormals

The fragmented ones.
There are two types of Abnormals: those who were created from will and those who were created without will. Any esk that willfully requests a second transformation can become Abnormal by will; they have chosen the path and they have a great sense of inner purpose that is honored in their transformation. Any Abnormal that has been created from inert materials, inanimate objects, or non-animal beings has been created without will and their transformations are unstable. Items, stones, plants — they cannot request or reject the transformation as they lack free will. Any esk can choose to create a new esk from these types of sources but most avoid doing so because the subject has no means of consenting. Still, these types of transformations do occasionally occur.

Esk that have requested a second transformation by will have found themselves in a fragmented state. Their form and energy signature are no longer in harmony, so when they go through the transformation process they are able to move from fragmentation toward wholeness. Abnormals that are created without will follow a reversed path. They were whole in the beginning, then the transformation moved them toward fragmentation as their form distorted without a sense of purpose. The esk created in this process are unstable in spirit or manifestation. Some have a hard time holding their shape together, others never fully develop consciousness and seem robotic or mindless, they are all unique but share the same quality of being incomplete, broken, or disturbed in one way or another.

Abnormals are freed from their boundaries.
When an esk is first transformed a part of their core self sinks into the Earth creating an energetic tether. This tether binds them to the power of their location and as they get further away from it their connection with that power is weakened which disrupts their form and abilities. When an esk received a second transformation their heart is uprooted from the Earth and returned to them, freeing them from this tether. The power is absorbed into their being and they are able to take this power anywhere without being weakened — this allows them to bring magic and transformation ability to any region they visit. As this part of their core self is returned to them, some esk will experience an awakening or strong recall of their past life in their original form from before they were an esk. This does not happen for all esk, some continue on with incomplete memories and only understand themselves as an esk and nothing more.

Objects, materials, and plants do not have a sense of self so they are never bound to their transformation site. No part of them becomes anchored to the Earth and they are always free to roam without ever being weakened.

The location where an Abnormal is created is still important; even though they do not bind to it they will always have a resonance with the transformation site. Abnormals are only able to manifest with plants or nature features that are found in the type of environment they were created in. An esk that was bound to one location and then re-transformed in a second location will have energetic resonance with both environments, this allows them to manifest in a way that bridges both realms. They are able to carry plants and nature features from both types of environments, but their stronger resonance is with the most recent transformation site and any further changes to their manifestation will relate to this new environment. Any existing nature features from their old home may shift their form or appearance as a reflection of this change in resonance.

Some esk seek second transformations in order to change their Origin, but others request the transformation so they can uproot themselves from their original boundary and biome to connect with a new environment. Some esk go through such a large shift that they change both their origin and their biome.
