The TWWM Canon

The esk canon grows based on the stories and submissions received in the group, but having some basic structure and ground rules helps set the stage so we create a cohesive concept together.
Please follow these guidelines when contributing to the TWWM canon.

Canon Ground Rules
  • Normal esk can only be created from humans or animals. Abnormal esk can only be created from plants, objects, minerals, or existing esk. They cannot be created from elements (fire, water, etc), intangible things (phenomena, ideas, etc), mythological creatures (unicorns, etc), processed food items (pasta, candy, etc) or things that are not found on Earth (stars, planets, etc).
  • TWWM takes place on Earth and the stories should use the real world as the foundation to be built upon.
  • Fantasy elements are an integral part of this world, but they must be applied to real-world subjects. The spirits or ghosts of animals or humans are permitted, enchanted objects or plants are encouraged, and abstract supernatural phenomena are welcome to be explored as long as they are being applied to real world species or environments.
  • Mythological creatures (unicorns, gryphons, etc) or impossible creatures (unrealistic hybrid animals, etc) do not exist in this world. Some exceptions may be made for cryptids (bigfoot, aliens, etc) as long as the stories are consistent with real-world accounts.
  • Fictional locations on Earth can be created as long as they are based on real-world environments.
  • Fictional realms are allowed but the framework for these realms is provided by TWWM with prompts and guides so players can collaborate on their creation successfully. Creating your own fictional non-Earth realms without prompting is not considered to be canon, but you may have your esk visit real-world environments that have magical or supernatural qualities to them.
  • Esk are non-violent — they cannot commit physical violence against each other, it is a code that cannot be broken. Some will, however, act violently toward humans or other beings.
  • Esk do not appear in public and cannot be captured or destroyed by humans.
  • Humans may catch glimpses of esk or perceive them as ghosts or cryptids, but their existence is not confirmed or accepted as fact. Humans cannot befriend esk or keep them as pets for this reason.
  • Modern day humans that report esk sightings are seldom taken seriously, but esk may be the inspiration for mythologies or fairy tales of the past or urban legends of the present. They may also reveal themselves to witnesses that lack credibility, such as children. They freely reveal themselves to animals.
  • The basic rule is that 99% of the time humans only witness esk when they have become lost or just before a transformation.
  • Esk exist in all periods of history past or present. Futuristic esk are not canon.
  • Esk are earthbound spirits and do not inhabit other planets, moons, galaxies, or outer space.
  • Esk cannot return to their original form from their past life.
  • Characters from other franchises, ARPGs/Closed Species, or trademarked characters do not exist in this world and are not canon.

These are ground rules for the game's canon but are not restrictions on your creativity. Everyone is welcome to explore alternate universes for their characters or make fan fiction that is outside of these guidelines. Non-canon artwork is not considered official gameplay and does not receive scoring, but it is welcome in our Miscellaneous gallery folder to be shared with the community.
